Cats vs. Coffee Beans

O. Y. Avatar

Dark, rich, espresso beans roasted to perfection create an irresistible fragrance and taste for humans…but for cats? Of course, the cat in question has also developed a revolutionary appetite for buttered toast and blueberry muffins, besides an addiction to the effects of consuming spider plants, but caffeine is pushing too far for any respectable feline. Don’t you agree?

Panther, who is nine years old, had finished his regular breakfast when his owners spotted him eating off the kitchen floor. They were even more startled to discover that the item he was so intent upon devouring was a coffee bean. Even more disturbing—he appeared to be enjoying it.

The effects of cats consuming espresso beans are as of yet unclear, though perhaps educated conclusions may be drawn from later witnessing Panther streak from room to room. (And if you think a cat can’t play the part of ten elephants, you’re mistaken.)

Though Panther’s cognitive abilities cannot be said to have noticeably diminished due to the encounter, that may yet prove to be the case. Still, it is worth noting that the aforementioned cognitive abilities do not appear on a regular basis; therefore, it is difficult to ascertain whether he suffered from the incident.

Was it the beginning of a sinful addiction?

In conclusion, it behooves all prudent cat owners to smuggle their coffee from sight. After all, we cannot criticize our cats for the self-control that we do not possess.
